Hi Murray,
Are you working with the flash-based interface at http://www.compacta.org…or the html interface as described further up this thread?
AnonymousInactiveJuly 29, 2010 at 1:34 pmPost count: 39html (but have been looking at the GUI this morning) It appears the GUI is very similar to html.
I have been on the SHN site and found some information. Are there any other sources of information?
Must they be used exclusively (ie can I use only one) Is it more internet compatible than the html? (my internet connection is Verizon and it appears using the EZSrve I am unable to make an internet connection)
On the GUI how do you setup HOLIDAY dates?
thanks
AnonymousInactiveJuly 29, 2010 at 4:39 pmPost count: 146Hi Murray,
I’m not sure how to take “it’s similar to the HTML interface”…but I’ll try not to take it as an insult 😉
To set up holidays, you’ll double click the time at the bottom of the screen, click the holidays tab in the screen that pops up, choose the holiday by typing it in or clicking on the little calendar and selecting the holiday, click add holiday, and then save when you’re done.
To trigger actions on your holidays, simply select the “HOL” checkbox when creating an action.
I’m going to write the wiki entry for how to set up an action now and it’ll be found when you click the question mark icon in the bottom left of the screen. The question mark links to the help section of the menu that you are in…so when you need help on actions, first go to the actions menu and then click the question mark.
Look for that in the next couple of hours.
For your particular scenario…you’ll set it up just like you mentioned in the “p.s.” – Choose window, set time you want the window to start, and choose offset of 3 hours…of course, make sure it’s hours (the far left box)…then check box holidays, select to enable condition and select to enable action, then click the save action button.
Best regards,
Justin

Love the design, but only was considering functionality when I said it was similar. Your design is much easier to figure and use effectively.
When I use WINDOW my lights turn on at the “time” and do not vary for the “period” amount (ie when set for 20:00 with 3:00 period I will have all lights which use this format turn on at 20:00)
Thanks again for a great way to work with our EZSrve. (Also I have found info on internet connections)
Murray
AnonymousInactiveJuly 29, 2010 at 6:39 pmPost count: 146Hi Murray,
Oh yes…functionality is pretty much the same. The HarmonyGUI is just a different and better way to display the internal information.
I tried setting up your scenario on my EZSrve and it worked as expected. I’ll run a few more tests and see what I can find.
Have you upgraded your EZSrve to 2.06.16 yet? You can do so with the Discovery tool – http://www.simplehomenet.com/Downloads/DiscoveryFTP.jar
AnonymousInactiveJuly 29, 2010 at 9:08 pmPost count: 391) 16 was installed this morning. I will try for a few days and see what happens. When trying to make changes through your interface I receive the response “invalid XML line 78 char 1. I have received other locations as being invalid also.
2) If I want a light on A) holiday and B) Tuesday – does this take having the time and date on the first condition and having only holiday on condition 2 (also marked as “and” condition)?
Thanks again for all your help,
Murray
AnonymousInactiveJuly 29, 2010 at 9:22 pmPost count: 146Hi Murray,
I have seen these XML errors but I’m not quite sure what is causing them yet. I have noticed that when the actions file has been cleared and created again from the HarmonyGUI that the error goes away.
It seems like something is corrupted in the XML file from the HTML interface to the HarmonyGUI interface.
If you could redo the actions from the HarmonyGUI and let me know if that fixes it, that’d help further trouble-shoot what is causing it.
You’re looking to have an action occur on a holiday, only if it’s a Tuesday..correct? Let me set that up to make sure it works as expected
Thanks Murray
AnonymousInactiveJuly 30, 2010 at 2:13 pmPost count: 39I removed one light timer from the html. I then tried 3 times to create the identical timing pattern in Harmony. 3 failures with response “invalid xml line 194 char 58” . I do love the way you have the interface to setup timers. Just need to fix the invalid part.
Thanks again, Murray
AnonymousInactiveAugust 10, 2010 at 7:44 pmPost count: 39I am still trying the “window” condition. If I set window from 20:00 – 24:00 to turn on a light for 12 minutes I receive the following: light turns on for 12 minutes at 20:00 and again for 12 minutes at 24:00. What I am attempting to get is a window where the light will turn on for 12 minutes between 20:00 and 24:00 (a random function).
AnonymousInactiveAugust 10, 2010 at 8:22 pmPost count: 146Thanks Murray for the testing.
I’ll forward this message to our development team and have them take a look at it.
AnonymousInactiveAugust 10, 2010 at 11:52 pmPost count: 1001You can use a dummy X10 address to insure that the random event occurs only once. Define an X10 address that is not used by any of your devices. Use the X10 status of Off as an Anded Condition controlling the random Action. When the Action is triggered use one of the Effects to turn the X10 address On. Once the X10 address is On the random Action cannot trigger again. Turn the X10 address Off with a time based Action a few minutes before the start of the 20:00-24:00 window. This technique will insure that the lights will turn On only once during that window.
I do not know how to generate a random event that would occur the first time randomly across a 4 hour window. Some combination of a random interval Condition Anded with a Window Condition will generate a random event within that 4 hour window but I have never seen any random event that occurs the first time randomly across a 4 hour span. Perhaps development will have some helpful advice.
AnonymousInactiveAugust 11, 2010 at 5:49 pmPost count: 39Thanks for the help (x2). I do not necessarily mind the event happening 2x during an evening. What I would like is for the event to vary from night to night (ie 8pm tonight 8:35 tomorrow, etc) — randomly during the offset time (I have window set for 20:00 with a 4 hour offset).
AnonymousInactiveAugust 11, 2010 at 8:24 pmPost count: 1001Once the Action has been saved the Random= Condition is generating random events so when that Condition is Anded with a Window 20:00-24:00 Condition the random events will trigger the Action only during the Window. The part that I cannot accomplish is having the random interval span nearly 4 hours. I can get random values that span over 30 minutes but I have not found a way to generate a random event that occurs 3 hours after the last random event.
AnonymousInactiveAugust 13, 2010 at 9:10 pmPost count: 39Thanks,
I will give it a try for a week or so and reply.
AnonymousInactiveAugust 18, 2010 at 2:05 pmPost count: 39I have set the following action and have no response from the light which is the subject of the action.
Action: FF 0 delay then 00 after 12 minutes
condition 1: (and) window 20:00 offset 3:00 (hopefully between 8 & 11 pm)
condition 2: (and) random time 28 minutes (hopefully between 8 & 8:28)Thanks again for your help,
Murray
FOLLOWUP – I have set a light with similar actions and conditions as above and it is functioning.
