Here is what I’m trying to do: connect my icon wall switch to the Ezio2x4 so that when I press the switch’s ON button, it turns on my stereo using output number one on the Ezio2x4. Very simple.

    Here is what I’ve done:

    1) factory reset the ezio2x4
    2) pressed the upper paddle on the Icon wall switch for 10 seconds until it flashes
    3) pressed the “set” button on the ezio2x4 for 4 seconds.
    4) then tap ezio2x4 set button once (for output number one)
    5) then hold the ezio2x4 set button for 10 seconds and then the light turns to a solid blue.

this is how I interpret the instructions.

    it doesn’t work.

    Any ideas?

I repeated your steps with a slight variation of holding the Set button for about 5 seconds for that last press rather than 10 seconds. The EZIO2X4 output relay is being controlled by my ICON switch. When you put the ICON switch into controller linking mode was the yellow status LED blinking indicating it was in linking mode. When you pressed the Set button on the EZIO2X4 for 4 seconds and released it did the ICON status LED stop blinking indicating the link between the two devices was established. The last step indicates to the EZIO2X4 which output relay to control with the link that was just established with the ICON switch. After pressing the Set button once for approx 1 second to indicate output relay 1, wait a full second and then press and hold the Set button on the EZIO2X4 for slightly longer than 4 seconds. Holding it for 10 seconds may be confusing it into establishing controller linking in the EZIO2X4. Please post back what happens with the ICON yellow status LED at each step in the linking process.

The Icon switch that I have is an older model. When I hold the top paddle for 10 seconds, the yellow light goes on for less than a second and then goes off and stays off.

The icon switch that I have right next to it, that controls a light is one that I bought more recently and it’s yellow light flashes repeatedly when I put it in linking mode.

On the old switch, the one that I’m trying to get to control the Ezio2x4, I can press the “set” button for four seconds and the yellow light WILL flash. Then when I press the ezio set button for four seconds, the yellow light on the Icon goes to a solid yellow. I then tap the Ezio’s set button and then hold for four seconds.

    This does not work, either.

I think I am going to give up on this. I’m using my ISY-99i to control the ezio2x4. It doesn’t work perfectly, but my WAF is going down the crapper. Every time that I try to program it to work outside the ISY (like we are working on here), it screws up the ISY function and won’t work at all. The wife is getting frustrated and I don’t want all future home automation projects to suffer because of it.

    thanks for your help,

Okay. Post back if you want to pick it up later. My ICON switches are very old. They were purchased near the beginning of Insteon. I’ve tried both ICON On/Off and Dimmer variants and both work the same. The ICON Quick Start Guide calls for the ICON status LED to blink when it enters controller linking mode. You cannot deviate from the prescribed Set button press sequence for the EZIO2X4 to compensate for the unusual behavior of the ICON switch. The EZIO2X4 link will not turn out correctly with a different Set button sequence.
