I have been using the PI gateway for a long time. Recently the zbp server stops receiving communications from the Insteon PLM. I have a number of Wizards which still execute. The zbp server sends the time-based commands to the PLM and lights go on and off at the proper times, however the zbp is not receiving any status messages. Also as a result the UI is not functional. Obtaining status of any device on the UI times out.
If I restart the service from the command line, I can use the UI for a short period of time and then this behavior resumes.
Here’s a snippet from the zbp.log right after a zbpserver restart. From the UI I am getting the status of a few modules, and we see TX/RX pairs.
At 8:44 I try again to get some module status and we see TX only, no RX. this continues until I either reboot the PI or restart the server.
I have rebooted the PI and rebooted the PLM, reloaded and updated the SW on the PI, tried other USB ports on the PI.
Suggestions?

AnonymousInactiveAugust 10, 2017 at 9:46 pmPost count: 146Hello Jay,
I’m sorry to hear that you are having these challenges.
Which version of ZBPServer does your gateway have?
Have you upgraded your ZBPServer recently, just to ensure this isn’t a bug we’ve already addressed? If not, in SSH…assuming you have a new enough version to take this command, run the upgrade with the following command: zbp-upgrade
Thanks much
AnonymousInactiveAugust 11, 2017 at 2:22 pmPost count: 22I ran the update command, which generated a raft of syntax errors, but according to the log file completed successfully. All of my areas were deleted. The log file is repeating an error about
Error creating old area ‘Exterior’ remotely, trying to migrate it later. Err: “Remote operation was disabled and the current platform does not have local storage”
for all of the areas I had previously. I’ll try to recreate those areas manually and see if that goes away.
I’ll report back later on how the communication issue is or is not resolved.
Thanks
AnonymousInactiveAugust 14, 2017 at 12:26 amPost count: 22The upgrade was not successful. I lost connectivity from the ssh session and I don’t have a physical console. I was unable to re-establish an ssh connection after the upgrade.
All of my areas were lost. I was able to create 3 new areas, but I was not able to add any devices to those areas. The UI acted as if it was adding devices – when I selected them, the “devices added to area” dialog displayed, but the device count always remained 0, and those devices were never again displayed in that area. After adding 2 areas, I was unable to add any more. Without a ssh session, I was unable to review the log file.
I removed the power and rebooted the pi. I was still receiving errors in the log about the device not being registered and retrying in 20 seconds.
I removed the zbpserver package and reinstalled from scratch. I was still unable to add areas, and the SD card became corrupted.
I am now reverting to a backup at the old version in order to at least run the wizards and have lights turn on and off 🙁

AnonymousInactiveAugust 24, 2017 at 8:54 pmPost count: 22I am still having problems with this.
I started with a new SD, formatted, installed a new copy of Raspbian Jesse 07052017, and installed zbpserver from scratch.
I received errors in the log file
Aug 24 16:46:41 raspberrypi ZBPServer[4458]: MQTTClient:: gateway registered, id: 598dbaf33bd8242a7c1a8443 accountId:
Aug 24 16:46:41 raspberrypi ZBPServer[4458]: MQTTClient:: this device is not associated to an account yet, checking again in 20secsI logged into the app.smartenit.com portal and recreated my gateway with the proper IP and and MAC address, but still receive this error.
I tried to copy my old data.db into the /etc/zbp directory to restore all of my devices. The devices are visible in the All Devices area, but all other areas are generating this error:
Aug 24 16:46:53 raspberrypi ZBPServer[4458]: AreasMgmt:: Trying to migrate old areas

commands are sent but no replies are ever received.FYI I tried to install this on the latest Raspbian Stretch but was unable to run the server – nothing at all in the log file after installation although the service appears to be running.
