At least I think it’s a problem with dual-band. (2 or more dual-band devices in the Insteon network)

I haven’t configured my EZIO2x4 for a few years now. It’s been working quite reliably. But now that I need to, I’m having this problem. The only thing that has changed since the initial setup is the addition of a few dual-band device to my network.

If you run the UtilitySuite and try to read a device link table from any device, it doesn’t work. Also, other comms with the EZIO2x4, like reading thresholds, often requires multiple attempts.

Watching the Insteon traffic while reading a few device links, you can see (what I think is) the problem. It looks to me like the API is tripping up on the duplicate messages that are coming from the dual-band devices.

After seeing the problem (SHN v2.0) I updated to v2.03a. No difference.

Anyone have any insight on this?

    Hello there,

Are you able to confirm that disconnecting the dual-band devices you have restores communication? I haven’t heard of an issue like this before, so we’ll need to do some basic trouble shooting to determine what is the issue is. Well, I’m sure you’ve done that…but if you could document what you’ve tried I can see if there is anything you might have missed.

I have not tried disconnecting the dual-band devices. They are wired in. Maybe I can map them out and just kill the breakers on those branches. I’ll try that…. after Christmas.

If they are switchlincs or keypadlincs, you can pull the clear plastic tab on the bottom out a bit (it pulls out about 1/8th”) and that will cut the power to the devices. If they are inlinelincs, then yes…you’ll have to turn off the breakers.

    I tried:

    (1) Remove all the dual-band devices from my network. And you were right, no difference.

    (2) Plugged the EZIO2x4 right on top of the PLM. No difference. In the Insteon Traffic window, lots of lines.

    (3) Reverted back to SHN v2.0. Everything started working again.

    (4) Moved the EZIO2x4 back to where it was, across the room, different circuit. Still Worked.

So, it looks like a v2.03a problem. Although even with v2.0, I’m still getting inconsistent results reading Link Tables. Maybe I’ve got some other interference going on.

How am I supposed to set the ‘Links Database Size” when reading link records? Small, medium, large? What difference does this make in the comms?

    Hello again,

It sure does sound like an interference problem since it sounds like you’re describing intermittent success in communication. You might find better success if you can move the PLM away from your computer power supply, low voltage transformers, and/or UPS battery backup systems.

The links database size will vary from device to device and the latest version of the utility will tell you the database size of our devices under the related tab for the device in question.
