I just received my EZUIRT, but I’m having troubles. I can control my A/V equipment through the external IR received and the SmartHome IR emitters work just fine. But when I try to associate a KeypadLinc button to an IR code through the EZUIRT, it doesn’t seem to work.

I put my KPL in linking mode. OK. I hold the pushbutton on the EZUIRT for 3-4 seconds. Starts blinking. OK. But when I try to teach it the POWER ON IR code (JVC TV), the LED on the side doesn’t flash briefly – it just keeps on blinking slowly. But the red light in front of the EZUIRT lights up because it does see the IR code I just sent. I am at a loss.

I have the same problem with my JVC A/V receiver, my Scientific Atlanta HD PVR and my Samsung plasma HDTV. I can control them all just fine directly through the EZUIRT, but never with a KeypadLinc. What gives???

Am I to understand the EZUIRT can’t decode my devices IR protocols???

This post was repeated and concluded on a different forum. From the other forum ….

I checked my Scientific Atlanta HD PVR manual, and there is no mention whatsoever regarding the IR protocol it used.

But I finally found something that works: my Oppo DVD player. Apparently, its IR protocole is NEC. So I’m relieved to see that my EZUIRT is not defective, but really disappointed I can’t use it with the devices I intended to. Basically, I bought it for nothing and it’s now too late to return it.

The Scientific Atlantic appears to use IRDA protocol from Internet hits I have found but this has not been confirmed from an official SA site or document.

I think the lesson here is to know the IR protocol of the devices that will be used with the EZUIRT before ordering. The supported IR protocols are X10, NEC, Sony and RC5. The Smarthome IRLinc lists NEC as the supported IR protocol.
