I use a light sensor (analogue output 0 – 5 VDC) to change response status of some lights in the house where good lighting is more critical. I put the sensor in an upstairs hall where it reads light levels coming in through a skylight. On a sunny day there is enough ambient light to work in the kitchen or office, but on cloudy days it can be pretty dark. My controller reads the analogue input and will turn on lights in the office and kitchen in response to a signal from an occupancy sensor (hard-wired motion sensors) if the light level is below a particular threshold (adjustable from a user-friendly touchscreen interface). I could imagine this would work well with an installation where your controller or software was able to send “then” commands based on multiple “If” conditions (e.g., light level, occupancy, etc.).
