    Can the EZRain/EZFlora be used with a rain sensor somehow to override the commands? Also, I have an EZServe — do I just program the EZRain with a different group number for each zone? Can I run more than one zone at a time?

    I have more than 8 zones, I assume there shouldn’t be a problem running multiple of these from the EZServe as well?

    The cheapest way is to use something like this

    You can tie the ground through it, and it will open when a sufficient amount of moisture is applied. A more expensive route would be to use an EZIO coupled back to the EZSrve for programmatic control. This is overkill for pretty much every situation.

    In regards to the EZSrve and the EZRain (now called EZFlora), under device configuration, select the EZRain module. You can then select config and set your programs / limits / etc…

    Under the area screen, select the EZRain, and then select more. You can have individual control for each of the valves and programs.

    You can couple as many EZRains together as you would like – a 24 or 32 zone setup with 3-4 EZRains is no problem.

    Also, when setting up timers / macros, you can select a program in the module, or a valve for a response – already programmed in. No need to specify individual groups, we have abstracted all of that for ease of use.

    I found the Hunter remote unit very easy to use. Since it is wireless, it makes relocating the sensor unit much easier and I like the fact that it responds almost immediately to rainfall.

    Thanks Paul. I fake added an EZRain device to the EZServe just to play around and overall I like what I see. As I am apt, here’s my initial opinions.
    I like being able to have 4 available programs — so I can have a separate hot day, regular day system. It would be nice to be able to rename the valves, i.e. backyard, flower bed, etc, since I’m forgetful. I assume, although I couldn’t find this explicitly stated, that a program advances from one zone to the next as the times run out. What would happen if I started a new program when one was already in progress? Are there 4 timers to allow each program independence from the rest? Why would I ever want to “inhibit command acceptance”? Is that some security measure? I’m excited to see what I can do here!

    I actually picked up an orbit rain sensor a couple months ago on a clearance table at Lowes for stupid cheap. Hopefully, that one will suffice.

    The more I think of it, a single input would be a nice addition to the EZRain. This could be configured for a rain-shutoff, then. This would also be useful to me in another aspect… I have a medium sized fountain that regularly needs to be refilled. I could then add a EZSnsLQD to see when the water level drops and use that to signal the refill valve to enable.

    A program does cycle from one valve to the next automatically. If you send a command to start a new program, it will stop the current program and start the new one. You may want to inhibit command acceptance to ensure that the EZRain is not activated on a day that is against local ordinance (since it is possible to link a keypadlinc to a valve as well).

    I was messing around with my EZFlora again just now and noticed that I could change the name of the valves in the control screen. When I changed more than one, though things got messed up in a hurry. I had been running 1.57, so I switched to 1.58. Now I can’t edit them, probably a good thing since it wasn’t working quite right anyway. So, does this mean valve renaming is coming down the line or did I stumble on an oops? If renaming is coming, I welcome it! My 12 zones get hard to remember sometimes… 🙂
