I am having difficulty loading timers into my Smarthome PowerLinc.

With one unit #2414U V2.1 (0817) I can’t load any timers. With another unit #2414U V2.1 (0704) I can load timers, but they don’t work. With either unit, I can manually enable “Program 1” on my EZRain.

I am running v1.77 of the SimpleHomeUtility, Microsoft >Net 2.0, and 308 of the SmartHome Manager.

    Thanks.

Have you downloaded the timer core app into the PLC?

See the admin page on the utility for the PLC.

I have seen reports on other Insteon related sites about later 2414U/S units not acting the same. Try the Timercoreapp12; as some said it fixed theirs. I think Smarthome has changed the shipping app in them but in the SDK they told me timercoreapp12 wa still there. I am beginning to doubt what they say these days.

Also from my personal findings. My 2414S serial was at least 2 times faster and missed less data than the 2414U USB version.

Also if you have ANY direct input devices like a force feedback joy stick etc. Smarthome said SDM3 is not happy with a direct input device and to remove them during SDM3 use.

I have clicked the button under “PLC – Admin” to Download the Timercoreapp. Where do I get the Timercoreapp12?

Another interesting thing I noticed was that when I do a “Get Sunrise” or “Get Sunset” from the “PLC Admin” tab, I receive the following erro

”2008/7/3 1090:12:0.0” is not a valid date and time
    uifinished:getsunrise

I also tried it with the SHN Utility and the SDM3-308 Log shows a failure with a bad file name.

I never used the SHN Utility to do it. I have used a direct command in SDM3-308 and Ken Millers “InHomeFree” program to do it.

Maybe Paul can elaborate on how the SHN Utility can do it.

Let me know if you want to try it another way than through the SHN Utility.

On the Sunrise and Sunset Errors. Did you try and set the location first. That downloads to the PLC the Sunrise Sunset Tables for your location.

I also found in mine. The SDM3-308 log showed times for the commands while the SHN Utility showed a Sunrise: Sunset: with no times after the :

    This was with a 2414S.

Also the show Lat Long button shows 0,0. That maybe a SDM3 thing as direct commands in SDM3 for me also show 0,0. Unless I issue the command after setting them and not restarting again.

Yep. Tried all that. I am really disappointed with this whole experience. The EZ Rain units work great from a hardware standpoint, but the software has not been the greatest. At this point, I run my sprinkler programs manually from the SimpleHomeNet utility.

I didn’t want to have to buy an EZSrve, but it looks like that is the only way to get them to work automatically I will.

I had originally wanted to use the EZRain units with my HomeSeer program, but HomeSeer does not support them; even though they are advertised as such on the SmartHome site. Thanks for your help.

If you want to go through SDM3-308 and try downloading Timercoreapp12.

    Start SDM3
On the task bar click on the small Blue “T”
    When SDM3 opens up
    Type DM
A command line will open on the bottom of the SDM3 screen
Type; isresponding ; in the line and click the Send Button
Screen should show a isresponding true
    Type DL=Insteon.net:timercoreapp12
    Click the send button
The download should start and may take awhile
When the download finishes the PLC does some house work
    Wait for the message saladapp=free
    Close down
    Restart.

This is most certainly an incompatibility with the software and the new PLC. I had the old PLC and all was fine, then the new one showed up and no-go. I have not been able to get it working at all. Has anyone had any luck?

What software package is the new PLC being used with (besides the SHN Utility Suite)? Is it working with that software package? I had not heard of a new PLC. Do you know what is new about the New PLC.

EDIT: Please identify what Smarthome device you are trying use. The Smarthome web site shows an X-10 based device when searching for PowerLinc serial and a search on 2414s points to an ELK interface.

Are you sure you are not thinking of the 2412SH or 2412UH HouseLinc 2 enabled PLM units?
I don’t think the 2414U and 2414S PLC units where updated and have even read they are being phased out.

Yes, it is the new HouseLinc2 enabled units. I see no point to buying an old one just to program my Ezio2x4. Can one use the EZServe to program the Ezio2x4 or is that limited? Thanks!

The HL2 enabled device is a PLM, not a PLC. Completely different devices with completely different interfaces. The SHN Utility does not interface with a PLM, only a PLC or an EZSrve/EZBridge. You cannot configure an EZIOxx through EZSrve/EZBridge at this time. The release notes for EZSrve indicate the new V2 EZSrve will have that capability but that is not available as yet. Do you still have your PLC that you can use?

As mentioned. The HL2 2412SH or 2412UH are PLM modules and not a 2414U or 2414S PLC as required by the utility.

The 2414U is still showing on the Smarthome site. The 2414S serial one seems to be gone.

I do know Smarthome is pushing the 2412S PLM units right now as the older 2414U/S PLC units do not do Extended Insteon Messaging and many of the new I2 Enabled Modules use the I2 Extended Messaging.

Gotcha. Thanks. I had to send back my old PLC when I upgraded to the PLM. I’ll just buy another one.
