In a post in the ezbridge forum, there was mention of the SendInsteon command, as in:
00.4F.AASendInsteon On
Full I’ve looked everywhere and cannot find any documentation for this command. The only list of commands I can find for the ezserv is the very terse XML Command Reference in the Quick Start Guide. And, it doesn’t even mention a SendInsteon command.
Is there any complete documentation for the XML commands anywhere?
AnonymousInactiveApril 12, 2008 at 10:51 pmPost count: 1001I found the following in the EZServ XML Samples….
–
00.4F.AA
SendInsteonOn
Fullwhich is really not any more than what you already have, except to confirm that there is such a command.
AnonymousInactiveApril 12, 2008 at 10:59 pmPost count: 29Thx. I have the XML samples in file “XML Msgs.zip”, but don’t see SendInsteon therein. Where did you find the sample?
AnonymousInactiveApril 12, 2008 at 11:04 pmPost count: 29Never mind. I had an old copy of the samples ZIP file. I found your SendInsteon example in the latest file.
But, geez, I find the poor documentation to be extremely frustrating.
AnonymousInactiveApril 13, 2008 at 12:35 amPost count: 1001I have not found anyone who is satisfied with the documentation from any of the major players in the Insteon world. The hardware technology is moving so fast I think companies are having a very hard time first creating and then keeping doc up to date. The other issue I have is how close to the vest SmartLabs is with Insteon detail. They have a few documents in the public domain that provide a good overview and entrance into Insteon but the real meat, like detail on individual command sets for the various devices is not made public. Nor have I seen anything from SmartLabs about Insteon 2. You can pay them to become an Insteon Programmer/Hardware Developer which does give access to more information but who wants to pay for that detail. Just have to scan the forums of the various hardware and software companies and pick up a piece here and there. SmartLabs probably has to do what they do to protect their investment in Insteon but it is frustrating for those on the outside looking in.
AnonymousInactiveApril 14, 2008 at 12:49 pmPost count: 408You know, I really like the unit we developed (though we still are adding / evolving), but I am not proud of the documentation with it.
We are actively re-writing it right now, and will continue to evolve it. We want the docs to be complete so customers can use more than the HTML interface, we want them to understand how to do things with the API, and why certain things happen.
So, I hear you guys, I agree, and we are working on it. We are not going to keep things hidden, we intend to have the full API available.
Expect a revised draft within less than a week, and until then, feel free to email me or post here with any specifics you would like to see.

AnonymousInactiveApril 15, 2008 at 1:58 amPost count: 1001Paul, Thanks for the doc update information. I was a programmer for 25 years so I know how difficult it can be finding the time to “do the documentation”. I think the EZServ has great potential. Besides running the SHN Utility through the EZServ just to confirm I could everything I had been doing through the PLC, my XML testing has been limited to issuing commands through the SHN Utility EZBridge Control feature (which is really a fun place to test basic ideas). Sure looks like you have created one powerful tool in EZServ once I master interfacing to it through something I create. Looking forward to the new doc.
AnonymousInactiveSeptember 12, 2008 at 5:42 amPost count: 29How about a quick command summary for controlling dimmers. This seems to work:
SendInsteon
00.33.1COn
FullI also managed to get ‘Off Full’ to work. Whats the inscmd1 and 2 for dim level? These seem to be case sensitive – true?
