I’ve got your utility installed under Windows XP on a Mac running BootCamp. The utility shows I am connected to my PLC 2414U 05:FD:FD but I can’t connect to my EZX10RF when I enter the address.

    Can you assist please?

On an actual XP system there will be a Blue T shaped Icon in the system tray representing SDM3. Double click on this Icon to open the SDM3 window. What messages are being displayed in the SDM3 window? Also in the SHN Utility under Insteon Traffic what messages are being displayed when you enter the Insteon address in the EZX10RF tab. Also is 05.FD.FD the actual address of the PLC?

The SHN Utility is not able to communicate with the powerline because the PLC has not found what it needs to function. This must be related to a query Justin had regarding PLC maps. Is there a maps subdirectory containing .ump files in the directory containing the SDM3.exe file?

No, no maps subdirectory with .ump files.

    Hello Bob,

You may need to try opening the SDM3 from the device manager folder under your program files>common files>Smarthome directory first. Once you’ve done that, the SDM3 should open from the appropriate area to see the maps in that folder.

    I hope that helps.

I renamed the maps subdirectory to something else and recreated the messages you are seeing.

    si:00 00 00 01 DB DE 0F 28 00
PLC:ERROR=012:MapNotLoaded-PLC not connected or no valid map. Try using isResponding first.
    PLC:sendinsteonraw=True

PLC:ERROR=012:MapNotLoaded-PLC not connected or no valid map. Try using isResponding first.
    PLC:sendinsteonraw=True
    si:00 00 00 01 DB DE 0F 28 00
PLC:ERROR=012:MapNotLoaded-PLC not connected or no valid map. Try using isResponding first.
    PLC:sendinsteonraw=True
    si:00 00 00 01 DB DE 0F 28 00
PLC:ERROR=012:MapNotLoaded-PLC not connected or no valid map. Try using isResponding first.
    PLC:sendinsteonraw=True

The PLC SDM3 device manager requires access to its maps files at run time.

    Hello,

    I don’t have a program files>common files>Smarthome directory. After unzipping SHN_Utility_Suite.zip all l I have is a folder SHN_Utility_Suite in My Documents.

    Okay Bob,

I sent you an email with the SDM3 setup file…let me know if that works.

    Thanks much,

    Justin

    Justin,

Thanks, the Utility is working but I still can’t connect to the EZX10RF. I can connect to an EXIO2X4 and switch outputs on and off OK.

I enter the ID for the EZX10RF and it says not connected?

Being able to communicate with an EZIO2X4 but not the EZX10RF indicates a communication problem or an address issue. Make sure the Insteon address is correct (no finger checks 8’s for B’s, etc). If the Insteon address is correct move the EZX10RF to the plug point of the PLC. Could be a phase coupling problem where the EZIO2X4 is on the same 120V leg as the PLC and the EZX10RF is on the opposite 120V leg.

I reset the EZX10RF, re-entered the address and now it’s working.

OK next πŸ™‚ how do I setup the EZX10RF to have the ON/OFF from an X10 wireless remote code P1, and the EZX10RF send it as an Insteon ON/OFF? I want only the X10 address I specify, I don’t want it to work as a repeater for other X10 devices.

    thanks,

OK I’m slowly getting it. The Setup X10 House/Unit Filter allows me to choose which X10 Units/Codes I want the EZX10RF to accept. If I select a House Code, deselect all the checked boxes, select Write and then none will be accepted….. correct?

It’s the Settings For X10 Code Records (Virtual Inputs) that I’m having trouble with. If I want to use X10 P1 on a remote then I select P in X10 House and 1 in X10 Unit, and Group number for the Insteon transmitted button/group number (X10 P1 = Insteon Button/Group 1).

For the other fields I’m stumped, can you help me here please?

Sometimes when I select read or write I get an Insteon TImeout Message and I have to retry, what’s this mean?

How come you guys don’t write this utility for the Mac, it’s really great!

It sounds like you may have intermittent comm. problems, with having to retry operations. Could also be that there has not been enough time elapsed to complete a particular step before proceeding to the next. The Insteon Traffic tab will show the command activity as it is happening.

Each X10 code defined is represented by an β€œX10 Code Record (Virtual Input)”. For a Code Record to be active and generate an Insteon Group sequence, the following would be set.

Code Index 1 (incremented for each new X10 code defined)
Linked – checked – indicates a link record for the Group number has been created
    In-Use – checked – indicates this X10 Code Record is β€œin-use”
Timer Mins – delays the Off command
    X10 House
    X10 Unit
Group – the group number to be used by the X10 House/Unit code
    From Off to On
    Cmd1 = Insteon command sent when X10 On – 11 Insteon On – default
Cmd2 – Insteon bright level for On command
    From On to Off
    Cmd1 = Insteon command sent when X10 Off – 13 Insteon Off – default
Cmd2 – set to 0 for Insteon Off command – default

Suggest defining an X10 code using the Quick Start Guide procedure, then look at the fields for that definition. That will provide a working model to pattern any remaining codes. If you do everything manually you will have to understand link record content and write the necessary link records in the EZX10RF and the responder device to complete the code definition. The Set button method described in the Quick Start guide does this as part of the Set button process which is another reason for doing the code definitions with the Set button.

I’ve got a 2412S Modem, can it be used to read the EZX10RF in the Simplehomenet Utility? If so do I connect it with an network cable?

    thanks,

    bob
